Russia on Wednesday said it would give “tens to millions” of dollars to Ukraine in aid, a day after the West imposed economic sanctions on Moscow over its role in the Ukraine crisis.
The Kremlin said the money will go to Ukrainian companies, but gave no details of the amount.
It was unclear whether the funds would go to the state-owned Ukrainian banks or be spent by other Russian companies, which have been hit by Western sanctions.
The announcement came as Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said Moscow’s offer was “unacceptable” and that it could lead to more sanctions.
Ukraine is one of the EU’s most important trade partners and is a member of the Western-led Customs Union, a bloc that also includes the US and Canada.
