The French government has ordered a review of the building’s exterior to ensure it complies with building codes, French interior minister Jean-Yves Le Drian announced on Thursday.
The review will be carried out by a French-based expert, Le Drians office said in a statement.
It comes after the French authorities installed an extra security detail at the French embassy in Washington on Monday.
French media reports said the extra security would be made up of French police, US Marines, and special forces.
The embassy building is located in the heart of the US capital, on Pennsylvania Avenue, where President Donald Trump is currently attending the G20 summit in Germany.
